Dear Roland, Lot and others,

Bertil has been trying to find someone to translate this whole  
exchange into English, but without success so far: there's a great  
deal in French by now, and apparently no one has the time to translate  
it all. And I wouldn't dare try to summarize it, since I myself am on  
one side of this contentious debate. The main substantive issue, as  
you may have gathered, is whether "Islamist" is an acceptable term  
(Jaber and I don't think so) or whether we should call Hamas "Islamic  
fundamentalist" (Nicolas doesn't think so). I expect this debate will  
come up again at the seminar. And now I will stop, because otherwise I  
will launch into my own arguments.
